Important information about opening a new account
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

What do I need to open a new account?
- NDTCO is required to verify the identity of all account holders per the Patriot Act. - A current account statement
- Beneficiary Information
- Your mobile phone for PIN verification
- A credit card for fees
It looks like the account I am opening has some additional paperwork. How do I fill it out?

- SIMPLE IRA – please complete the SIMPLE 5304
- Inherited IRA – please complete the Inherited IRA Election form.
- Coverdell/ESA – Supplemental Account Information

I already have an account with NDTCO. How do I open another one?
Go to https://portal.ndtco.com/open-account and say YES! when asked if you are a current client. All your information will be pre-populated into the form. The only thing you will provide is the new account type.
I am opening another account and noticed some of my information is outdated. How do I fix it before I open the new account?
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! When you submit your new application, we are going to ask you to log in to your account for some final set up. While you are there, pop into your profile to review what we have on file and make any necessary changes.
It seems like fraud is everywhere these days. What steps is NDTCO taking to protect my personal information?
We take the security of our client data very seriously. Our account opening is designed to prevent a fraudster from using your personal information. Through physical and digital identification, we step you through the verification process. Being asked to re-verify information or supply a photo of your ID is not an inconvenience, it is an assurance that we are protecting you from fraud.
I am being asked to upload a copy of my ID. Which way is the easiest?
Using your phone’s camera on the QR code is the easiest way to upload images of your ID. Not just for menus, QR codes are a great way to get a mobile phone user to a web page without worry from typos. Then simply follow the on-screen prompts to snap photos of the front and back of your ID. If you already have photos saved to the device you are using to sign up on, you can also browse to them from the ID verification page.
Getting the photo of my ID right is tricky! Any tips to get it right the first time?
Use the QR code or request a text to your mobile device – it is easiest to complete this step on a mobile device. Additionally:
- Driver’s licenses are a bit easier to do – your thumb doesn’t get in the way to hold it open!
- When taking the image, put your identification against a darker backdrop in a well-lit area.
- Double check that your identification is not expired.
- Ensure that the image you are uploading is clear. If it looks blurry to you, it will look blurry to us. Retake it until the image is clear and legible.
I uploaded my identification but got an error message – what happens now?
Check that your identification is valid and not expired. Be sure you take the photo against a dark background, in a well-lit area, and the image is clear.
Now it says you can’t verify my identity. It wants me to call, but (it’s not convenient/it’s outside of normal business hours) What happens now?
In most cases, the photo of your ID was just slightly blurry for the system to read. Give us time to review the error as it may allow us to resolve any outstanding issues. If you did not upload a copy of your ID and still get this message, please call us at your soonest convenience.
I walked away before I completed all the steps. Now what do I do?
If you set up your username and password, just log back in. If not you will need to set up online access.
It looks like there are several ways I can fund my account. Which one is the fastest?
An ACAT Transfer is typically the quickest funding method. If you are not sure if your current account is eligible, check here. Complete our form and be sure to upload a copy of a current account statement.
I still need help! Can I talk to someone?
- Absolutely, our team is here to help Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 5:00pm Mountain Time. Give us a call at 877-742-1270.
